We’re a husband and wife team running SPATZ while raising three energetic boys (yes… three. Send snacks). What started in spare bedrooms stacked with boxes, late-night packing sessions at the dining table, and cardboard box cubby houses has grown into a full-blown creative studio.

Most of our designs begin as quick scribbles, wild ideas and “what if we tried this?” moments, before being lovingly illustrated and printed onto our hand-picked range of quality products by us right here on the old Coast. Every order is made to order, packed with care, and sent out with a ridiculous amount of pride.

From our very first dummy clips and T-shirts to now offering over 200 personalised products using multiple professional printing methods (including fancy large-format fabric printing), we’ve come a long way. And we’re still having way too much fun to stop.

SPATZ is proudly Australian-owned and family-run, based on our rural property in the beautiful sunny Gold Coast hinterland, where we design, print and ship personalised goodies to families near and far. No international warehouses, no outsourcing, just real, hands-on creating from start to finish from the first pencil lines, to the final print.

Truthfully, this whole business exists because of a deep, slightly obsessive love of art and creating. It’s never just been “work” — it’s the thing I find myself coming back to, even when I probably should be doing something more sensible.

There’s something magic in taking a blank canvas and turning it into a little world. Playing with colour until it feels just right, softening edges, adding tiny details that most people might not even notice… but I know they’re there. It’s that quiet, satisfying kind of creativity that fills your cup without asking permission.

I’ve always been drawn to making things feel beautiful, meaningful, and a little bit whimsical. Not overly perfect or polished, but warm, thoughtful, and full of personality. The kind of designs that feel like they’ve been made, not manufactured.

Even now, after all these years, I still get that little spark when a new idea lands. The “I have to draw this immediately” energy. And the best part? Knowing that something I’ve created ends up in your homes, part of your everyday moments, your milestones, your memories. Everytime I pack an order it still blows me away that you love my art so much!

That’s the bit I never take for granted.

Since swapping the chaos of Brisbane city life for the slower rhythm of the Gold Coast hinterland in 2025, things have shifted in the best possible way. The business has taken on a more relaxed, intentional pace… and these days, it’s largely a one-woman show (aka Leany) behind the scenes.

That means every illustrated design, every print run, every late-night “just one more order” moment is handled with a whole lot of heart (and probably a cup of Earl grey tea that’s gone cold… again). It’s quieter, a little less chaotic, but still powered by the same big ideas and love for creating something special for your mini peeps.

What hasn’t changed? The obsession with quality, the pride in every order, and the joy of seeing your personalised pieces come to life. Just now, it all happens with a bit more fresh air, a few more birds chirping… and yes, still the occasional chicken supervisor wandering through 🐓
